What is sound? Well, there are numerous ways to define sound. I'm sure you've heard the age-old question: "If a tree falls in the forest, but there's nobody around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Just as there are numerous ways to define sound, there are numerous ways to answer this question. You see, if sound is defined from a cognitive viewpoint, the answer is no because there is nobody around to provide cognition. If sound is defined from a physical perspective, the answer is yes because regardless of whether or not an onlooker is present, the tree is still going to go through the same physical agenda the we've decided defines sound. As you explore this website, understand that the physical nature, rather than cognition, is our focus.
